Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Facial Cleanser : Review

Hey Ladies

Long have I waited to be able to write this post, and now I am so glad I can. Since Philosophy came to Sephora, I can now free talk about my favourite all-in-one cleanser the Purity Made Simple.

A random shot

I bought this philosophy skin care essentials set in August 2013 which comprised of:
  • 8 oz. of Purity Made Simple,
  • 8 oz. of the Microdelivery Micro-Massage exfoliating wash,
  • 2 oz. of Hope In A Jar original formula moisturizer,
  • 0.5 oz. of Hope In A Tube eye and lip firming cream,
  • 1 oz. of the micro delivery peel vitamin c/peptide crystals with 1 oz. of activating gel.

I know! Awfully a lot of items for a starter kit right and I paid about MYR 365 (it seems so long ago I couldn't really remember how much but definitely below MYR 400)  including shipping. Click here to see the set if you are curious. So basically I have been using this cleanser for 6 months now and I still have that much left in the bottle. This cleanser of this size retails at MYR 85.

What I love about this one step cleanser?

  • It cleanses off make up in one easy step. Yes! waterproof mascara and all gone with one wash.
  • No more tugging on the area trying to clean my eye liner and mascara off my eye lid
  • I can wipe the cleanser clean off my face using wash cloth or water ( we Malaysians love to give our face a good splash of water )
  • Skin feels clean after every wash.
  • It cleans and tones your skin so I don't need a toner after cleansing. It makes my ritual easier.
  • A little goes a long way but then again 250ml is a lot to use even if you thoroughly cleanse your face twice a day.
Would I purchase this again?
Most definitely! Actually I already have. Sephora had ran out of stock of this 2 weeks ago but they are already back in stock yesterday.

Would I recommend this to a friend?
Yes, yes and double yes!

So the next you drop by Sephora, make sure you try out this amazing one step cleanser ok!

Stay healthy and beautiful ladies!

Beauty School : 10 Minute Makeup - Express Masterful Ways To Look Polished Every Morning

Photo from

Hahaha ok I get a kick out of this poster. This kid is so cute! Anyway back to the matter at hand... if you are like many of us who wished we could just wake up, bathe and go to work with as-is face without being made up, then you have come to the right post.

Today I am going to show you (or more like tell you) how to look the part just by waking up 10 minutes earlier than your usual time and be out the door feeling you can conquer the world.

As usual you have to start with a clean, nicely moisturized face. Never ever do sin to your face by not taking care of its basic needs ladies I am warnin' ya. Alright, once that is done let's get started!

Your 10-minute Makeup Routine

  • 45 sec     - Start by creating a beautiful canvas for your look by using BB cream or mineral powder concealer. Dot 5 spots on your face and blend them with your fingers. If you are using mineral powder concealer, dab the powder all over your face then blend them out with a face brush.  Product pick : tarte BB tinted treatment 12-hour primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30  sunscreen; Ratchel K CC Cream, Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Cream/Stick/White, Ronasutra 2 in 1 Mineral Base & Concealer with UV Protection.
  • 15 sec     - Lightly dust face powder all over your face to set your BB or CC Cream. Don't over do it or  you will end up looking cakey. Product pick : L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Powder; Ronasutra 2 in 1 Mineral Foundation & Powder with UV Protection; NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation
  • 2 min     - Fill in your eye brows. Product pick : Empro Brow pencil; Maybelline Master Studio Brows
  • 2 mins    - Define your eye with your favourite eyeliner. Product pick : IN2IT Pencil Gel Liner; Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil Liner
  • 1 min     - Curl eye lashes. Product pick : Shu Uemura Lash Curler
  • 1 min     -  Put on mascara by wriggling the bristles at the base of your lash and comb outward. Product pick : Maybelline mascara; tarte lights, camera 7 flashes statement mascara; Benefit They're Real! Mascara
  • 30 sec     - Give your cheeks a nice flush by applying blusher to the apples of your cheeks (which means on your cheek bone) with a blush brush. And please...don;t overdo the blusher ok. You should look like you have a healthy flush of colour and not a patch of colour on your cheeks like Chinese opera. Product pick : theBalm InStain Long Wearing Powder Staining Blush; tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush;  NYX Powder Blush
  • 30 sec     - Fill in your lips with a lip liner for more staying power. Product pick : MAC Retractable Lip liner; Sephora Pencil Lip Liner; The Body Shop Pencil Lip Liner
  • 30 sec     - Add colour to your lips by swiping your favourite lip colour. Product pick : MAC Lipsticks; Revlon Super Lustrious Lipsticks; Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick
  • 30 sec     - Add shine to your lips by swiping your favourite lip gloss. Product pick : MAC Lip Creme; Revlon Lip Gloss, NYX Lip Gloss
  • 1 min     - Very important step, check your overall appearance and don't forget to smile.
So there you have it! Easy Peasy... no more excuses for not looking your best in the morning. 10 minutes is all you need or less if you don't do your brows or if you skip the first step because you are using the Ronasutra 2 in 1 Mineral Foundation & Powder and want to keep it light without the accompanying mineral concealer.

Practice, practice, practice if you are new to this routine. Do yourself justice by always looking your best because you are worth it!

Stay beautiful everyone!

Beauty School : Eyeliner 101

Have you ever thought what the beauty world would be like without eyeliner? It is like birthday cakes without the candles I suppose. Right?  Let's face it, eyeliner is one of our basic essential beauty item that almost every lady would have on their vanity table, in their purse or in their office drawer. As for me I would have an eyeliner in every cosmetic pouches in all my handbags so I won't be caught without.

So let's take a closer look at this beauty essential shall we?

First the pencil liner, which is the staple for every woman. Almost every girl starts with pencil liners because it is the easiest to apply especially if you don't have a steady hand. It is also happens to be my personal favourite type of liner as it gives the eye a softer overall effect to your eye makeup compared to gel/cream or liquid liner.

Pencil liners are great for :

  • defining your upper and lower lash lines
  • lining your waterline
  • smudging on the upper and lower lash line to create smokey eye look
  • always make sure that your pencil liner is always sharp so that you can get close to the lash line possible and create a beautiful natural looking defined look (if that make sense). Don't be lazy about sharpening your pencil liners girls, believe me, it won't look as nice and neat of you line with a blunt nib.
  • always use the sides of the kohl to line the eye instead of the tip. This will give you more control when lining your lash line. This technique will give you a more precise line
  • line using short strokes starting from outer corner of your lash line and work your way in one stroke at a time.
  • look for a high pigmented pencil that is soft enough so that it won't tug on your delicate skin
  • set eye pencil liner with eyeshadow to ensure its staying power (though most pencil formula now are waterproof so more often than not you don't really need to set it)
Personal Picks: IN2IT Gel Eyeliner Pencil, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, Stila Kajal, Shu Eumura Drawing Pencil

Next, is the gel or cream liner. This is a great alternative to the liquid eyeliner as gel/cream liner is easier to apply because of its thick consistency/formula. So if you have unsteady hand, this type of liner will be more forgiving (compared to liquid liner) and gives your more control when drawing the line.

Gel/cream liners are great for:
  • creating a more precise line along the lash line compared to pencil liner.
  • creating that fashionable cat eye/ winged liner that we love so much
  • creating that ultra thin line on the lash line
  • eye shadow base for your eye colour (more so for cream liners)
  • use an angled brush to create the perfect cat eye. As usual always start from the outer corner of your lash line in short strokes and work your way in one stroke at a time
  • use a small precision brush to create that ultra thin eye liner
  • use a fluffy dome brush to smooth cream liner on your lid if you want to use it as a base colour for your eye colour. I find using this type of brush spreads the cream liner better compared to a flat brush
Personal Picks: MAC Fluidline, Stila Smudge Pot, Benefit Cream Shadow, Shu Eumura Painting Liner, Maybeline Gel Liner

Last is the liquid liner. Using liquid liner is tricky but once you master the technique it will be a breeze and you will be able to line your lash line in less than 1 minute! Liquid liner gives you the cleanest and most precise line compared to the two types above. Liquid liner comes in different tip :- Felt tip, Nylon Hair brush tip, Pencil brush tip. I personally love the Felt Tip ones.

Liquid liners are great for:
  • creating the cleanest and most precise line for that cat eye or winged eye look compared to pencil or gel liners
  • those with oily eye lids. It applies wet but dries quickly. Once it is dry it won't budge. So love that about liquid liners
  • always have a pointy cotton bud with you to clean up mistakes
  • pencil brush tip gives you more control and nylon hair brush tip will be the hardest
  • practise, practise and practise some more. Don't give up hahaha.
Personal Picks: L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Black Lacquer (Best liquid liner I have tried. I have been using this for the past 5 years), Mary Kay Liquid Eye Liner

So there you have it and I hope it has helped you in small ways if not more. I would like to close this post with a video tutorial. Please note that the method used in lining the eye is the same for pencil, gel or liquid. Just remember to use the sides of the pencil kohl instead of the nib when lining your lash line. Good luck!
